Tasting Notes
The 2011 vintage will be remembered as a late, exceptional Oregon Pinot Noir year. Like 2010, it was a cool growing season, with harvests extending into late October and early November. While both vintages share modest alcohol levels, the 2011 expresses a distinctly different style, shaped by bright September weather that allowed the grapes to develop remarkable balance and structure. In magnum, this Pinot Noir reveals the rewards of patience and careful handling. The aromatics are complex and inviting, with ripe cane berries, dried fruits, spice, and hints of sandalwood. On the palate, the wine is silky on entry, flowing into vibrant acidity and juicy, mouth-coating fruit. A subtle game note emerges, adding depth and intrigue, while fine-grained tannins provide drive, energy, and remarkable persistence. The wine’s richness, minerality, and intensity—reminiscent of the 2008 vintage—unfold gradually, rewarding both immediate enjoyment and extended cellaring. This magnum is built to evolve gracefully: enjoy now for its freshness and vitality or hold for 5–10 years to experience the full complexity and harmony that only time and a larger format can provide.
